First PR agency specifically for non-profit organisations: Comm2You launches Comm2Care

"Sector needs to strengthen link with general public, especially as tax deduction for donations is at risk of being reduced"

Brussels-based PR agency Comm2You is launching a new division with Comm2Care. Comm2Care will also be the very first PR agency in Belgium exclusively serving non-profit organisations. With no fewer than one in eight people in Belgium working in in the the non-profit sector, it has long since ceased to be a niche sector. Yet the sector is facing a major challenge: the new federal government is planning to cut the tax deduction for charitable donations. “The level of attention the sector receives today is unfortunately not in proportion to its size and social relevance,” says Joachim Deman, Managing Partner of Comm2Care. "That's why we want to help non-profit organisations get the visibility they deserve. After all, once the reduction in tax deductions goes into effect, the sector will need to make an extra effort to convince their donors - and so once again they'll be focusing on strong communication."

By setting up Comm2Care, Comm2You is looking to respond to a growing need within the non-profit sector: organisations dedicate themselves to important social purposes every day, but often fail to get enough attention for them. Yet the Belgian non-profit sector has long since ceased to be a niche sector: it accounts for no less than one in eight jobs in our country. Moreover, every year new, often smaller organisations are added, making it increasingly difficult for charities to raise their profile.

“The non-profit sector is becoming increasingly important to the Belgian economy. This increasing social and economic role means that strong communication is not a luxury but a necessity for the sector. And a strong, socially-oriented PR strategy is crucial in this respect. After all, many non-profits do great work - so the stories are often there - but they lack the resources, time or expertise to get their message into the media in a sufficiently effective way. Comm2Care will help them with this.”

Reduction of tax deduction for donations

The new federal government already announced that it will cut the tax deduction for charitable donations. It is likely to drop from 45 per cent to 30 per cent, a blow that will hit many non-profits hard.

“An unfortunate decision and a hefty blow for a large number of non-profit organisations. Because the number of donations is likely to decline as a result. Nonprofits will have to focus more than ever on communication in order not to lose touch with the public. Donors naturally want to know exactly who their money supports and why it is so important to continue their support. One way to do that is to tell the stories that matter.”

From storytelling to crisis communication

Organisations can call on Comm2Care for strategic communication, media relations, crisis communication, storytelling and the propagation of their ‘brand recognition’ - and this is specifically tailored to the opportunities, challenges and sensitivities in the non-profit sector. Comm2Care also assists CEOs, chairmen, experts and spokespeople in explaining their message in short and powerful words through personal communication processes, training courses and workshops.

Comm2Care's experts have already supported numerous non-profit organisations in their communication strategy, such as Kom op tegen Kanker, Diabetes Liga, G-Sport Vlaanderen or Belgische Cardiologische Liga. From 2022 to 2024 founder Joachim Deman worked as spokesperson for one of the country's largest non-profits: the Red Cross.
